Frequently Asked Questions

  1. My waders have built-in sleeves for shells. Why would I use a Duck Bag instead?
Many people are perfectly happy carrying a handful of shells in their waders (either in those sleeves or in the front pouch). The Duck Bag is for those who want a better-organized, more secure, and more-accessible system for their ammunition.

  2. Right shoulder or left shoulder?
If you mount your shotgun to your right shoulder, choose a right-shoulder Duck Bag; If you mount your shotgun to your left shoulder, choose a left-shoulder Duck Bag. The difference is the orientation of the pouch opening, which needs to be accessible to the hand that pulls the trigger (and loads the shells).

  3. I hunt from a layout boat/kayak. Does wearing a Duck Bag pose a drowning hazard?
No. A Duck Bag can hold a full box of 12- or 20-gauge shells, which weighs about 2 pounds (1 kg)—about the same as a pair of shoes. This is a relatively small amount of weight.

  4. Can you make a Duck Bag using Sitka’s Optifade patterns?
Not at this time. Gore (who owns Sitka) keeps tight control over who gets to use their camouflage; we are not among the chosen few. If you’re trying to coordinate a Duck Bag with your Optifade Marsh gear, we offer three patterns that have similar colors and contrast: Realtree MAX-4, Natural Gear, and True Timber DRT.

  5. How long does it take to make and ship a Duck Bag?
We do our very best to ship within 24 hours of receiving your order. We use the U.S. Postal Service for almost all our shipping; they typically deliver orders in the USA within 5 to 7 days. Orders shipped to Canada and the UK can take up to 21 days to clear customs.

  6. Can you make Duck Bags in other shell sizes (such as 10-ga, 16-ga, 28-ga, or .410)?
Yes. A common request is for a bag to carry both 10- and 12-ga shells. Please reach out by phone/email/text message to let us know what you want—see Contact page. The cost will be the same as a regular Duck Bag.

  7. Can you make Duck Bags using camo patterns other than those offered on the product page?
Yes. Some of our most popular patterns are a result of customer requests. Please reach out by phone/email/text message—see Contact page—and let us know what you’re looking for. If we can get our hands on the fabric, we’re happy to sew something special for you. The cost will be the same as a regular Duck Bag.

  8. It looks like the weight of the pack is supported by the neck. Does that make it uncomfortable to wear?
The neck strap does support the weight of the Duck Bag (about 2 pounds [1 kg] when fully loaded with shells). Most of the time, this will not feel uncomfortable. One way to distribute the weight is to loop the chest strap up and around the neck strap—creating an “X” across your back when both buckles are connected (see photos below). This can alleviate stress to your shoulders.
